Corberán: “I value the effort put in by the team until the end”
The coach’s post-match press conference after the game against Elche CF
Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán spoke after the 1-1 draw between his side and Elche CF at Mestalla.
MAXIMUM LEVEL OF DEMAND
“I completely understand the fans' frustration, because the team's performance and results aren't what they had hoped for. We know the demands of being a coach and being part of Valencia CF, and we have to face them.”
PUSHING UNTIL THE END
“If I analyse today's game, then I’d say that the team created enough chances to have won. But in football, the final part of the move is what decides whether you go ahead or behind on the scoresheet, and the team weren't able to take advantage of the opportunities we had. The opposition, with the very few chances they created, managed to score that goal that made everything worse and more difficult. I appreciate that the team kept fighting until the last second of the game. We drew and could have got more from this one. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, and we didn't get the three points we wanted.”
LACK OF ACCURACY IN FRONT OF GOAL
“It would have been important to have taken the lead in this game, as we could have managed the contest better that we. Even without going in front, the team never stopped pressing, fighting, and battling. We weren't clinical with the chances we created before Elche scored. It was one of those games where the difference between expected goals and goals conceded was most in Valencia CF's favour. However, at this moment, we shouldn't be talking about statistics, performance, or what we deserved. Right now, we need to talk about points, and Valencia CF didn't get them today. We have to accept that responsibility.”
DISSATISFACTION WITH THE DRAW
“I think that a draw was the minimum Valencia CF deserved, although I think it would have been a fair result for Valencia CF to have taken all three points. It's a draw that feels like a missed opportunity because of our need to get the three points, as that's the only way to move up from our current position in the table.”
FOCUSING ON THE NEXT GAME
“I’m only going to analyse this game, in which we were dissatisfied with the result. In terms of our play, I thought that the team deserved better against opposition who, regardless of whether they are recently promoted or not, offered things that Valencia CF were able to neutralise very well. My objective is to focus on the next match and nothing else.”
